Currently, I am also working as a professor of NCD at the Bangladesh University of Health Sciences (BUHS) and as a director at the NCD & Mental health division of the Centre for Injury Prevention & Research Bangladesh (CIPRB).
As a professor, I teach master's in public health students at the University and supervise the research work of masters and PhD students. Basic Epidemiology, Applied Epidemiology, Research Methodology, NDC Epidemiology, and NCD prevention & control are courses I am currently teaching. Along with regular teaching, I supervise the postgraduate students' research work. I supervised around 20 master's students' theses and presently running six PhD students.
I did my PhD in Public Health from the Karolinska Institutet Sweden and worked in Public Health and Epidemiology for more than 20 years. As a Public Health professional, I have extensive experience designing and implementing public health interventions. Prevention of Child Injuries through Social Intervention and Education (PRICES) is one of his outstanding contributions to child injury prevention and public health in low-income countries. The WHO adopted Anchal, Swim Safe and community-based first-response programs as global drowning prevention initiatives, all of the mentioned interventions are being tested in the PRECISE we implemented in Bangladesh.
As a Principal Investigator, I have conducted a nationwide survey to assess Service Availability and Readiness of health services for Noncommunicable Diseases in Bangladesh. I have designed and implemented a digital technology for implementing the WHO PEN protocol in Bangladesh's primary health care setting.
I am currently leading a study exploring the mental health services situation to implement WHO's Special Initiative for Mental Health (SIMH) program in Bangladesh and designing a monitoring framework for the mentioned program. As a Principal Investigator, I have conducted a Nationwide survey for Service availability and Readiness assessment for mental health services in Bangladesh. Currently, I am a member of the Technical Task team for mental health strategy in Bangladesh.
As a country lead, I have designed and implemented an urban daycare model as an integrated centre for the survival and development of children with the University of Leeds, UK. I led several multi-country studies in Bangladesh, namely Exploring Urban Equity: getting and using the data to respond to Noncommunicable diseases in an urban area. And the equity of health care, primarily mental health.
I am the focal person of the National NCDI Poverty Commission in Bangladesh. This commission is a global network for NCD and injury prevention. Through this initiative, I coordinate national initiatives for NCD and Injury prevention issues and priorities, designing and implementing interventions with the national government.
I have published more than 100 hundred articles in peer-reviewed journals.
